Why Mothers & Babies First?

Over time, it seems that we have lost our way in supporting new families.

As health care becomes more of a profit driven business, the well-being and care of new mothers and their babies is not necessarily the first priority at some birth facilities.

In fact, instead of the United States having the very best breastfeeding rates, birth outcomes and the lowest maternal and infant mortality rates, the U.S. ranks far lower than many other countries in the world.

Mothers & Babies First advocates for the improvement of maternity care and up to date breastfeeding support through evidence-based practices as well as empowering women in their parenting journey

Please note that for the gold standard of breastfeeding care, there is a worldwide organization and national authority called the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) and, in the United States, Baby-Friendly USA. (BFUSA).

"BFUSA, as our accrediting body and national authority, is responsible for coordinating and conducting all activities necessary to confer the prestigious Baby-Friendly® designation and ensure the Highest Standards of Infant Feeding Care to US hospitals."

Is your hospital designated? Check here - Baby-Friendly USA ~ Baby-Friendly Facilities A-Z and by State (babyfriendlyusa.org).   If not, you should ask why? And then ask When?

Improving Birth

"First and foremost, we are the voice of the American maternity care consumer. That voice grows more powerful every day."

Improving Birth has joined with the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS), best known for the Mother Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI).

The MCFI was the nation’s first and only consensus document which defines the ten specific steps a maternity care provider or birthing facility can take to provide evidence-based, mother and baby-centered maternity care.

Improving birthing outcomes increases breastfeeding success rates and decreases postpartum depression rates.

A WIN -WIN!
